Blog dedicated to Junior, a Colombian Tripawd

One Month ampuversary

Hello everyone. Today I continue with the Junior’s story.

Today is a month since Junior’s surgery and to commemorate this day, I will tell you the story of how we made the decision for your amputation.

After we had the x-rays and knowing that he was already a member of our family, we returned to the vet to have them analyzed. The orthopedist examined the X-rays and then began to explain what he observed: initially told us that seeing the paw of Junior could be thought of a congenital deformation, but seeing the X-rays were perfectly differentiated bones, so this option was discarded. No fracture lines were observed on the radiograph, neither recent nor old. Finally, he proceeded to make a detailed observation of the paw of Junior where it was determined that his paw had no sensitivity (his nerves had been broken) and in addition to this, some tendons were burst and atrophied.

He explained that this condition had been caused by a strong blow and that, probably, if it had been treated in time, would not have caused such severe damage. We also noticed that Junior had a piece of shaved chest, it was difficult to detect because his hair had already grown enough; This indicated that he had been injured for about a month. From there we got a theory: Junior had already been part of a family; Probably after suffering the accident, were taken to the vet, but for some strange reason, they decided not to do anything for him. It was unlikely that he was lost, for he hardly ran, he found it difficult to do so.

There were not many options because the nerves were damaged. It was at that moment that we had to make a decision: the amputation. I felt bad, I was not able to understand that this was the best option, I did not understand how Junior could continue to have a normal life without his leg. But that was the decision I had to make.

That weekend we met Cora, a brave three-legged. It was the one that ran the most in the park regardless of the problems he had because of poor amputation. Then I ran into www.tripawds.com and wowwwww, it was wonderful. These two things gave us much encouragement, the support of the whole community was vital to resolve my doubts and feel supported.

Today when I see Junior I am convinced that was the best decision. When he had his paw it was difficult for him to run, he tripped with his paw which caused him to fall very hard, he had difficulty going down and climbing and climbing, limping excessively and because his paw was crawling, it caused injuries to the skin. Now he is a happy dog, a brave dog that teaches us that all circumstances can be overcome no matter how life has treated us.

I’m afraid my Spanish is not good, but I just want to say welcome and we are so happy that Junior is doing well! I’m sure he feels much better without his paw getting in the way. He is lucky to be a part of your family.

Our dog Zato had his leg amputated 2 weeks ago because of bone cancer. He is doing well today and I know it was the right decision for him.

We’d love to see more pictures of Junior!

Thank you very much for your words. I hope soon to have the English text to share it and make it easier for you to understand it.
The photo dog running is not Junior, it’s called Cora and it’s another Tripawd we met in our city (Medellín, Colombia). She and all the stories we read at http://www.tripawds.com helped us understand that Junior after his surgery would have a very good life

Awwwww Hoppy Ampuversary Junior! We are thrilled that you got to meet another Tripawd in your city (and a beautiful one too)! I had no idea.

My apologies for our lack of Spanish language information here. It is a long-time goal of ours to have the entire site translated and some day we will. For now, I translated your post on Google Translate and posted the text in your blog dashboard. It’s a draft post called “Draft Post: Junior’s Ampuversary Story in English”

For now I just want to say how touched we are that the Tripawds community and Cora were able to help you decide on amputation for Junior. It is a difficult choice to make but it sure looks like it was for the best for Junior. How blessed he is to have such a loving and compassionate soul for a parent (that’s you!). From now on, your happy boy will pay you back a thousand times over with love and devotion that asks nothing in return but food, water and play.

If you ever need anything at all, please let us know OK? It’s an honor to have you as part of the community. HAPPY AMPUVERSARY JUNIOR!!!

¡FELIZ AMPUVERSARIO JUNIOR !

Many thanks Jerry for your words. Yesterday I began to see the video “How to be more dog” and the history of your family is really inspiring. Thank you so much for having founded tripawds thinking about all that we could go through a similar situation. The work they do is extremely admirable.
